Digi Scrapping with a Shadow Set

As far as I’m concerned Shadows make or break a layout. Now I’m not claiming to be an expert. No way! I’m a work in action. I’m studying hard and trying to get better with every layout I create. I study layouts on galleries to see if I can find where people have got it wrong. Floating embellishments – or text on flowers are the most common I see. Shadows are very personal as well. I’ve taken two classes on shadows and each of the teachers used different settings for the shadows they used. So part of my road to becoming an expert in shadows is to decide what I like in terms of angles and blending mode. At the moment I’m still playing and as long as I’m consistent in a layout I’m not worried I use the same across different layouts. I see it like using the same spelling for color through out a document. I sometimes use colour but its important I use only one in one piece of writing.

One of the easiest ways to do shadows is to purchase a set of shadows and I was lucky enough to add a set to my collection of these this week as Mye De Leon re-released her set at Design House Digitals and as a guest on her team I got to play with them. The set is full of some great shadows from the basic paper shadow to some great ones for lace and fabric. I like that she includes more than one shadow for paper as papers that are stacked show different shadows as they get higher in the stack. The angle of her shadows is 45 degrees which is a common number and she uses the multiple blend mode on her shadows (this is for people who worry about these things but if you just use these shadows on their own you don’t need to worry about this).

Want to learn more about shadows check out Tamara’s class at Scrap Orchard or take Peppermints class at Big Picture Classes (this one is instant download class so you could take it today!).

If you want to learn more about shadows check out the page on the daily digi which is devoted to drop shadows – lots of information here and links to even more.

Finally here’s the layout I created using Mye’s Shadows
