Each month at Simple Scrapper there is a challenge. This month the challenge is to make a layout which uses the colors red white and blue that isn’t about the 4th of July. You don’t have to use a simple scrapper template and you don’t have to be a premium member. So it’s a great challenge to do and have the chance of winning a $15 credit with my favorite layout printer Persnickety Prints. To enter all you have to do is upload your layout here.
As a member of the creative team at Simple Scrapper I don’t get to win but I do get to do the challenge which can be hard sometimes. This month was hard for me as red isn’t a color I use very often in my layouts and I find it hard to scrap with. I decided to scrap about how we celebrated the Queens Jubilee. We have lived in Texas for 10 years now but we’re still British passport holders so it seemed like we should mark the event some how. My sister shared a picture of her house back in England and she had put up flags for the occasion so I decided I’d do something similar. Luckily I had a large Union Jack my Mother-in-Law had given me at some point that we hadn’t used. I think she sent it for the World Cup (Soccer). So I had hung the flag outside in our tree. I’m not sure what the neighbors thought well that is other than the other British couple who happen to live over the road.
The decision to scrap this for my layout also gave me the excuse to buy some really cute designs from Kate Hadfield
I also used a kit from Jen C Designs which I already had and included the perfect papers to match these cute characters
This is the final layout I created
Don’t you love that doggie (and that’s from someone who doesn’t like dogs in real life)! I will add this page to my family album I think or it could make it into my all about me album – not 100% yet. I used a template from the September issue of the Simple Scrapper Premium Membership files for this.
I had just finished this layout when I realized that Dianne Rigdon who I create for had a kit due out that I needed to scrap with. I didn’t realize that it also contained British papers or I may of used this instead for the layout I’d already done. In the end I ended up doing a second red white and blue layout which could work for the challenge as well.
I also used a Simple Scrapper Premium Membership Template for this layout. I’ve used this template before but this layout came out looking really different. I switched out the picture spot and I used an element which is like cork board to make the top part so I was able to pin the tag onto it!
Here’s the other layout with the same template – all supplies Chelle’s Creations
I love templates as they make these layouts so easy to make.
Hope I’ve inspired you to scrap a Red White and Blue layout. As I said not my favorite color combination so if I can do it I’m sure you can. Come back and tell me if you win!
Ronnie
